Any professional recognizes the importance of continued education, regardless of the industry. In September 2017, the Crane Nuclear Training Team was asked to develop and execute a custom AOV/Valve Workshop for twenty Industry Evaluators from the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO). Crane leads the industry in the field of Nuclear Training for valve maintenance and testing. This was an opportunity to leverage decades of nuclear experience to develop a session suited to INPO’s specific needs. According to Mr. William Findley, Evaluator – Maintenance/Work Management for INPO, the advantages of choosing Crane to develop this workshop went beyond the proximity of these Atlanta-area partners. “With recent industry weaknesses, we felt like as Evaluators, this would be valuable,” said Findley. “Crane has a lot of knowledge in Motor Operator Valves (MOVs), AOVs, and Valves. All of our Evaluators don’t have the same background and the same level of competence. This Workshop brings us up to speed.”
Set in Crane Nuclear’ s recently redesigned Training Center in Kennesaw, Georgia, the Crane Training personnel developed a tailored and comprehensive experience curriculum that featured more than just classroom lectures. According to Findley, “The classroom training was well organized,” but he acknowledged that “we really liked the hands-on portion of it. We liked having the valves and tools to play with. Overall, it improved my technical ability, and will help me to be a more critical Evaluator.”
